Air Driven Sponge Filters

Sponge filters are some of the easiest fish tank filters to use. Although sponge filters are a seemingly basic method of aquarium filtration, they actually serve several purposes and are popular for every level of fish tank enthusiast. This is largely because of how cost effective they are to buy and maintain.

Sponge filters offer both mechanical and biological filtration. The sponge is able to trap larger pieces of debris to clear the tank, and the good sized surface area allows good bacteria to breed, while keeping water free of harmful contaminants. Finest Filters sells several aquarium sponge filters in a range of sizes according to the size of your fish tank. Our Traditional Air Driven Sponge Filter comes in three sizes, and can be used alone or alongside other fish tank filters. This is the same for many of our aquarium sponge filters, which have significant benefits when used on their own or can act as a secondary filter with other filter media.

Sponge filters are also useful as breeding filters; for example, Ista Bio Sponge Filters come in two sizes and provide the necessary filtration without trapping fish eggs or small fish fry. Smaller tanks may get on better with a mini sponge filter like the Mini Air Driven Sponge Bio Filter, which not only offers excellent filtration, but also real value for money.

You will need an aquarium pump to attach to any sponge filters you use. Air driven sponge filters work via the pump pushing water inside of the sponge filter. The sponge then absorbs this water, which attracts any debris into the filter and allows good bacteria to grow at the same time.
