Using a sediment filter is one of the first steps in achieving cleaner and clearer drinking water as part of your reverse osmosis household filter system. A sediment water filter clears out visible particles found in water, flushing out things like dirt, sand, silt, and rust. You can use a water sediment filter as part of your whole house’s water filtration system to maintain cleaner water for drinking and bathing, or for use in household appliances. As well as removing visible sediment, a sediment filter prolongs the life of RO membranes and carbon filters by removing any dirt that might otherwise clog them up. A sediment filter will not remove chemicals or heavy metals and so you’ll need to choose other filter options for this part of the process.
When choosing a sediment filter, consider the quality of your water. A 1 micron rating sediment filter will clear out the smallest impurities, while a 5 micron rating will remove larger pieces of sediment, but will not trap microscopic debris.
