The fine filter pad is responsible for effective biological filtration within the aquarium. Once an effective bacteria colony is established, ammonia and nitrites produced by fish waste can easily be broken down. Finest-Filters recommend that the coarse filter pad is changed every 3 to 6 months, depending on stocking levels.
